Bare Truth

from Lost Art (album) by The Goths

/

about

Bare Truth started out as a basic chordal melody early in 1990 with a technique of playing in fourths, a simple chord inversion, to create a homophonic texture that was suitably medieval sounding and which could easily translate into a progressive rock or art rock sound. It was imagined at the start as mimicking a kind of torment between the feudal or feuding joker and the thief, expressed by use of some secret jargon or code. The line ‘Another Peccadillo, Another Tete A Tete’ got the ball rolling. From there, it wasn't long before the lyric writing leapt into the glorious world of Elizabethan revelry. Bare Truth was a way of trying to get people to actually sit up and say ‘hold on a minute’. Of course, in mainstream music there’s little that comes anywhere near this kind of use of language. Driving, intricate rock tops it all off.

lyrics

Another Peccadillo,
Another Tete A Tete
I'm going to do some breaking,
Breaking in some skates
Another Peccadillo,
Another Tete A Tete
Nothing that's salacious,
Something I can take
That's the Bare Truth
Something I can take, at the Inn
Another Peccadillo, in the Inn
Tete A Tete and that's between us
Now I'm at the Altar
Now I'm at the stake
I'm going to do some breaking,
Breaking in some skates
Venus in between us
