about

Crypt dates from 1990 and is a brooding impression of long dusty ages stretching back to the distant past of ancient Egypt. The mummy's curse, mysterious deaths from excavating tombs which are sacrilege to violate, is underscored by the lyrics, so too the notion of the resurrected mummy and whether such tales aren't merely the product of a fever-fueled imagination. Yet the god Osiris appearing at the finale of the verses and lord of judgment in the afterlife bodes ill for defilers.

lyrics

There’s a shadow in the tomb, a mortal silhouette
The sound of digging fills the room and sarcophagus is hit
A voice in somber tones is reading from a scroll and
Revives the ancient bones as the bell begins to toll and
In the candlelight she sees a hideous vision of
Rotting flesh that’s old and dead and dry
For the world was very young
When tall Osiris died

There’s something going down at the old windmill
The pounding on the door is a-beating still
The monster from the crypt has found his long lost love
But she can’t leave necropolis soon enough

There’s a body in the tomb, an innocent pet
The sound of banging fills the room, has no one heard yet?
A loud, chilling cry screams from inside but
The echoes do not fly beyond the walls of the crypt and
In the candlelight she sees a hideous vision of
Rotting flesh that’s old and dead and dry
For the world was very young
When tall Osiris died
