about

Maddalena dates from the mid-1980's and was a reaction to that decade's ruthless capitalism and massive indulgences. There was no particular underlying song meaning intended other than those times as manifested in the blatant stereotype of the evil witch. 'Snake for a brain' conjures up images of a Medusa figure. 'Crystalline soul' could be a reference to crystal scrying. Perhaps the more fearful idea is that of crop-destroyer.

lyrics

Maddalena is her name
And casting spells is her game
Better not get in her path 'cause
She knows where the spirits are
She’ll deal her cards,
Check the stars,
Believe it boy, she’ll take it far
Better not get in her way 'cause
If you do, she’ll make you pay
Power pumpin', poison packin',
Gonna get some skulls a-crackin'
Fire buildin', balls she’s breakin'
All the souls she’s a taking
She’s got acid in her veins,
And a snake for a brain
She won’t grow old,
With her crystalline soul
She’s got eyes full of hatred,
And a life that’s wasted
She won’t stop,
Till she’s destroyed the crop
She’ll put your soul in a hole
That’s the story I've been told
