Skin Feature

from Creature Feature (album) by The Goths

/

about

Skin Feature goes all the way back to 1982. It was an early stab at songwriting with the first lines put to music those of the refrain, 'Listen to the preacher man, God’s not going to reach you'. Later came 'The devil’s making it along. To a stranger tonight'. It was an ambitious use of strange or awkward speech to give the impression of unclear or confused thinking, spilling out with the insidious influence of formal education and religion. The finale 'we’re all living on the movie screen, covered in cream we’re all in ecstasy' seems prophetic today. Looking at social media it would appear that anyone can now tailor themselves like a film star. Perfect funk sound.

lyrics

B-grade feature or five-star feature
Watching Mary Poppins video
Skin feature

Listen to the preacher man
God’s not gonna reach you
The devil’s making it along
To a stranger tonight
In the night

Five-star feature or B-grade feature
Teach you some of Nietzsche
Popping on the screen
It's a dangerous scene
And it’s starting to steam
Like a smoke machine
Skin feature

Listen to the preacher man
God’s not gonna reach you
The devil’s making it along
To the strangers in the night

We’re all living on the movie screen
Covered in cream we’re all in ecstasy
Skin feature

Bucket loads of cream
Ecstasy! We're all living in ecstasy
Covered in cream! We’re all
Gonna be covered in cream
